My First Hybrid!
I bought my car less than a year ago after messing up the engine in my 1.4 by dropping a bolt into the inlet manifold and letting the engine run... OOPS!
This ment me selling the 1.4 and getting a valver.. the best thing i have done for along time!
Over the months i have changed the wheels from orange Turbines to white williams wheels, fitted harnesses, spruced up the engine bay etc for FCS '07.
I have since then put the headlights back to standard instead of the quads it came with. Fitted a more subtle scorpian exhaust and a HID headlight kit.
I have also renewed all the suspension for performance/uprated items.
Now i am progressing the project forwards....

Im hoping for 250bhp and 165ft/lb torque at the flywheel. About 280bhp/ton. Not too bad for a little clio, we shall see how close we get in time!
After shelling out for a Megane Lump that i was set to rebuild a williams lump along with a load of other bits came up for sale and i couldnt resist!

Water Pump;
Williams Block
Sand blasted sump;
Sand blasted brackets;
High Comp Pistons;

and the Crank:
I have just recieved a large shipment of oil coolers (im selling the rest off within the various owners clubs!)
Im awaiting a male -> male adapter so i can remove the water to oil cooler that is already on the car.
I have also been in touch with QEP who are getting me my missing circlips for the gudgeon pin....
They only cost me £10 to my door which is excellent considering willwood charge £4 for a split pin!
Im still wanting a copy of the piston ring installation instructions and my graphogen paste is on order.
Made more progress today:
Wire wheeled the block and painted it satin black, going to have all the extra bits for the bling on this engine, and keeping it looking OEM to those that arn't in the know!
I have aquired a lovely 6point bolt-in sparco roll cage that i will fit at somepoint when i get a chance. Have no pics of it yet, will get them up when i have finnished painting it!
Some pics!...
The block:
Here you can see how its been rebored to 63mm diameter and honed for the new piston rings
:
Some shots of the painted block:
Some more parts i have got myself..
Clutch Release bearing:
Last nights efforts...
One freshly painted cam pully cover (sandblasted, etch primed and enamel painted):
I also fitted the oil cooler sandwich plate to the block (hopefully you can see how the new parts will be showcased againt the black block):

Ordered some more bits that have just arrived... lots of screw cap 12.9grade clear zinc coated bolts that both look great and are an upgrade on the mix of 8.8 and 10.9 grade renault used origionly.

I have also primed the sandblasted aluminium bracetry (these will be painted with an aluminium spraypaint which will look like fresh aluminium but wont corrode and get grubby like the parts would if i just left them sandblasted):
Also have been wire brushing and degresing the gearbox and covering in self etch primer as i go, this will get the same treatment as all the other aluminium parts on the car:
When you mix fresh brackets with new bolts and the block...
I thought I had better make sure it all went together, which it didnt quite, the water pump and sump bolts wernt M8. I knew that from measuring so i ordered M6 but these turned out to be too small, it seems that Renault in all there wisdom used M7 bolts for these parts, so im going to have to have to find someone who can supply these to me or drill out and retap to M8 size, but i dont fancy doing this, we shall see!
Some pics:

When ordering these, SHOUT OUT TO MAXIBOY FROM WILLIAMSCLIO.CO.UK, who found me the supplier and also told me i should upgrade the main cap bolts to 12.9grade. These bolts have no need to be zinc plated as they will spend there life in oil so that is why they are black and dont look so pretty!
Excuse the spots of rust on the block:

My graphogen assembly lube is here, after contacting the manufacturers who wanted just over £30 for 2 tubes to my door, i rang my trusted MATT AT QEP who sorted me out with only one tube but £8.75 to my front door - which arrived next day!
Im still awaiting big end bearings, main caps and some other bits and bobs for the engine, but the longer i wait the more parts i get to horde which is fun!
A little update on the roll cage.
The paint refuses to go on smooth and you can see though it, sill hamarite smooth white. I bought this instead of my trusty white enamel as it said it would go straight onto rust. I think i will use up what i have left and revert to my old reliable!
I still need:
Williams Gearbox Strap, New oil pump, New pas pump, Oil filter, Oil, Gearbox Oil, Full Gasket set and Belt Kits, Alternator and Startermotor...groan!
I have cut my dash to bits and am re-wiring it, removing anything i dont need and flocking whats left to make it look presentable, i mite mould what i removed in carbon so i can mount a wideband lambda sensor display (from KMS) and a NO2 progressive controler... yes we will be adding NOS at some point, probable a 50bhp shot to start with just for shits and giggles to pull away from people who arnt expecting it!
I have just recieved my main caps and bigend bearings.. thanks Mark, im going to harass you for the Megane head you mite have next!
So i set about preping the crank ready to put into the block. This involved making it all up so when i put it back together it will still be balanced correctly from the engineers who lightened it and ballanced it. There was no need for any regrind as it was in perfect nic, good oil and regular filter changes did there job!
Can see makings from when it came back from balancing:
Im thinking on replacing the blots which are 8.8grade for some of my 12.9grade ones. It shouldn't make any difference to the balancing (this has been confirmed by our inhouse, friendly, engine builder at williamsclio.co.uk CRAIG FROM APD).
I have just tightened the crank up to discover it doesnt turn :(
Seems i am missing a couple of thrust washers and from LUNNER FROM WILLIAMSCLIO.CO.UK's picture i have put the main caps on the wrong way around.
LUNNER:
Thats my first attempt which didn't turn iirc, note numbers are towards back of block:

So im going to wait till xmas is over and get down the local motor factors - MOTOR PARTS WORLD and see if they can get me some trust washers and a full engine gasket set.
